Thomas Jefferson overcame a 35 point performance by Boys & Girls point guard Khalil Brantley, as the Orange Wave earned a quality road win in PSAL Brooklyn AA league play on Tuesday, edging the Kangaroos 93-91 in Brooklyn.

Boys & Girls put up 26 points in the first quarter, opening up a 12 point lead despite getting just 2 points from Brantley, who was whistled for three personals in the first eight minutes, forcing him to sit the entire second frame.

Even with Brantley on the bench, Boys & Girls still managed to hold a double digit lead midway through the second quarter, getting key offensive contributions from Andre Crosby Jr. and Jahi Mukoro. Jefferson started to chip away at the lead, connecting on three triples in the second quarter, two by Reality Holmes and one by Jaquan Carlos. Holmes (6) and Carlos (6) combined for 12 of the Orange Wave's 24 second quarter points, as Jefferson pulled within a bucket (40-38) at the half.

The Orange Wave hit another offensive gear once Brantley returned to the floor, exposing seams in the Boys & Girls zone and putting up 28 points in the third, with Ramsey Saleh scoring 8 of his 10 points in the quarter. Brantley was able to keep the Kangaroos close, scoring 10 points in the frame, but Boys & Girls struggled to get stops on defense, with Carlos continuously getting into the lane and making plays.

Jefferson's lead swelled to 71-60 after Taliek Atkinson's corner 3-pointer with 6:45 to play, and the Orange Wave still led by double digits at 81-71 after a Carlos drive with 3:35 left. Brantley erupted for 23 points in the fourth quarter, including three triples in the final minute, but Jefferson cashed in at the free throw line, with Kevin Tabb making 5 of 6 from the stripe down the stretch to seal it for the Orange Wave.

Carlos finished with 24 points, Atkinson scored 17 and Tabb 15 for Jefferson, which is now 5-6 in league play, the number 5 spot in the PSAL Brooklyn AA standings behind Canarsie (7-5). The Orange Wave will host the Chiefs on Thursday and then close out their league schedule with back-to-back games against Eagle II on February 4th and February 6th.

Boys & Girls is now 8-4 in the standings, the third spot behind South Shore (10-2) and Brooklyn Collegiate (9-3). The Vikings defeated the Lions 63-53 on Tuesday.

The Kangaroos will visit Eagle II on Thursday and will close out their league schedule at Brooklyn Collegiate on February 4th.
