Jared Rivers had 14 points and Yashawn Bright had 13 points to lead Christ the King over Archbishop Molloy 68-61 in front of a standing-room-only crowd that included Creighton Head Coach Greg McDermott in Briarwood on Friday night. With spectators huddled around the court vying for elbow room, Christ the King jumped out to an early 22-15 lead at the end of the first quarter, getting seven points from Tracy Cleckley. Molloy settled down to cut the lead to 35-30 at the half and jumped ahead 45-44 in the third quarter on Cole Anthony's 3-pointer. After Molloy held a 47-46 lead at the end of the third, Christ the King went back in front in the fourth, with key 3-pointers from Rivers and Tyson Walker. The Royals extended their lead to 64-56 after Molloy's bench was whistled for a technical foul with 1:01 left to play. Molloy cut the deficit to 64-59 on another Anthony 3-pointer with 39 seconds left and Moses Brown's up-and-under move cut the lead to 65-61 with 24 seconds left. After a Christ the King free throw, Bright came up with the defensive play of the game, drawing a charge against Anthony that waived off his basket with 11 seconds left, sealing the win for the Royals. Anthony finished with 15 points to lead Molloy. Christ the King is now 7-2, all in CHSAA league play, while Molloy is now 2-1 in CHSAA league play and 7-2 overall. The next game for both teams is Sunday, when Christ the King faces Xaverian at home and Molloy visits St. Raymond.
