Jaden Gaffney had 17 points to lead Uncommon Charter to a 62-52 win over previously unbeaten Fannie Lou Hamer at the PSAL B Division Boys Basketball Showcase in the Bronx on Saturday. Uncommon Charter sprinted out of the gate, going on an 11-2 run to open the game. After Fannie Lou Hamer Head Coach Marc Skelton called a time out, Fannie Lou Hamer, playing without senior point guard Frempong Boateng, proceeded to go on a 14-0 run to take the lead 16-11 at the end of the first and held a 26-25 lead at halftime. Uncommon Charter outscored Fannie Lou Hamer 16-8 in the third quarter to take a 41-34 lead, and then held off a late rally by Fannie Lou Hamer in the fourth, with Gaffney scoring 8 of his 17 points in the final quarter. Uncommon Charter had ten 3-pointers in the game, including three by Gaffney and four by Justin Williams, who scored 16 points. Sha Teek Myrick had 14 points for Fannie Lou Hamer. Fannie Lou Hamer, currently ranked 2nd in New York State Class B, is now 22-1 overall, while Uncommon Charter is 12-1.
